Rather than sharing the typical “day in the life” video on social media, today, I shared a glimpse in my life as a blogger.

Leaving behind the familiar rhythms of a classroom and diving headfirst into the world of blogging was one of the most exhilarating decisions I’ve ever made.

In 2019, after years of teaching kindergarten and working as a reading intervention specialist, I took a leap of faith to pursue my passion for writing and creating content full time.

Today, I am the proud creator of two thriving blogs: Little Learning Corner and Our Blue Ridge House.

Finding My Passion in Blogging

Little Learning Corner began as a platform to share educational resources and tips with fellow teachers and parents.

As someone who’s always been passionate about education, this blog allowed me to continue making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.

The positive feedback and growing readership encouraged me to expand into another passion of mine—sharing our lifestyle experiences here in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains through Our Blue Ridge House.

Getting Started with Blogging

If you’re considering making the jump into blogging, and want to share content you’re passionate about, let me guide you through the essential steps.

As you go through the steps below, you will find affiliate links to the programs and tools I use on a daily basis to grow my websites.

1. Choosing a Hosting Platform:

Start with SiteGround for reliable hosting. It’s user-friendly, offers excellent support, and ensures your blog runs smoothly.

I started with a different platform and ran into a lot of problems.

SiteGround, however, has been amazing to work with!

2. Setting Up Your Blog

WordPress is the go-to platform for bloggers worldwide due to its versatility and ease of use. SiteGround makes it simple to install WordPress with just a few clicks.

3. Create Your Content Pillars

If you already know what you want to talk about, pick 3-5 pillars that falls under your niche.

For example, if you want to talk about family travels, create categories such as destination guides, travel tips, itineraries, and your personal experiences.

If you are unsure of what to write about, RankIQ has an amazing list of highly searched topics that you can get inspiration from.

4. Optimize for Search Engines

To drive traffic to your blog, use Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO tools, such as RankIQ, helps you understand what your audience is searching for and optimize your content accordingly.

RankIQ has been my absolute most favorite tool to understand and utilize search engine optimization!

5. Manage Ads

Once you begin to grow the traffic to your website, you can begin making money from ads.

Ad Management programs, such as Monumetric and Raptive, are an effective ad management source that helps you monetize your blog through strategically placed advertisements.

If you’re just getting started, I recommend Monumetric as a way to earn a small compensation for your content.

If you’re already a blogger, have grown your site, and are looking to monetize your content, I highly recommend Raptive, formally known as AdThrive.
